Fond Memories

//makorra ficlet

prompt: reminiscing (:

Korra looked down onto the arena. A grin stretched across her face as Bolin’s team finally scored a point.

Korra continued to keep her eyes trained on the game, but her mind was elsewhere. Memories of the first time she had met Mako and Bolin began to push themselves to the forefront of her conscious. The moment Korra had broke into the arena, the first time she met Bolin and, later, Mako, and finally how she volunteered herself to play and eventually helped the team win the match.

Korra was torn from her reminiscing when a loud buzzer resounded through the stadium signaling the end of the first match. Korra saw the disappointment written across Bolin and his team’s faces. They had tried their hardest, but Bolin had to work with rookies now. They needed to gain some experience before they could think about grabbing some wins.

“It was a good attempt.” Korra turned her head to look at the man beside her. Mako had been completely silent throughout the game.

“Yeah, with a little more practice I can see them being one of the strongest teams this season.”

Mako nodded in agreement and Korra laid her head upon his shoulder for a moment before the next match started up.

“Funny, isn’t it? This is where it all began for us.”

Mako raised a brow before allowing a gentle smile to tug at his lips. He pressed his lips tenderly to Korra’s forehead.

Korra sat back up and drew her attention back to the announcer who was already introducing the next match.

“I bet that the Golden Gatorbears will win this match. When they do, you have to take me out to dinner, Cool Guy.”

“You’re on.”

Lost Scarf

//makorra ficlet

A/N: Wow I wrote this long long ago when the episodes were first airing. Idk felt like reposting. -flies away-

Mako ended up waking up in his own bed. He figured Bolin must have carried him out of Korra’s room when he finally nodded off. Mako had been keeping a constant vigilance over Korra since they had brought her home.

He had only left her side once. That moment happened to be when a very sullen looking Asami asked him if they could take a walk and talk about something. Mako hesitantly agreed. He wanted to be there when Korra woke up. He wanted her to know that he was right there for her and that’s where he would be from now on.

Mako wasn’t exactly mentally there for most of the time he spent walking with Asami, it was only when she stopped and looked him straight in the eye that he started to pay attention.

“Mako. We need to talk. Bolin told me about your kiss with Korra during the tournament. Do you have anything to say about that?”

Engagement

//Repost of an old drabble of mine.

Makorra

Mako was quite curious about the necklaces some of the women of the Southern Water Tribe always seemed to wear. It was on a rare occasion some months after he and Korra had been dating that Mako was left alone with Senna. Korra had gone out with her father to have a good old fashioned polar bear dog race. Mako was a little surprised to find out such things existed. Out of curiosity, Mako finally asked the woman about the necklace she happened to wear about her neck. Senna simply laughed.

“It’s a water tribe custom.” Her voice was gentle and there was no mocking to be found within it at all, but Mako’s ears still became red out of his embarrassment for such a lack of water tribe knowledge.

“What does it mean? If you don’t mind my asking, that is?” Mako was always a complete gentleman to Korra’s mother, it was only proper. It’s how his mother would have wanted him to act.

Senna grinned and fingered the pendant. Her memory stretched back to the day Tonraq presented it to her.

“It’s a betrothal necklace, Mako. When a man in the Southern Water Tribe proposes to the girl he loves, he hand makes one of these necklaces. After it’s finished, he presents the necklace to the woman as a way to ask her to marry him.”

Mako simply nodded, but his mind was suddenly going full speed. This was how he was going to ask Korra to marry him. He would use a custom from her own tribe to show her how much he truly loved her. Mako thanked Senna and returned to his room.

Later when Tonraq returned, Mako tracked him down to ask his permission to marry his daughter. Tonraq smiled and gave his blessing. He had grown to like the boy quite a bit. When Mako mentioned making the necklace he even informed the fire bender how to go about making one. Mako was very grateful.

It took Mako weeks to get the necklace together. However, after tireless hours of work Mako had finally completed the piece. He even had the perfect plan in place to propose to her.

Tonight, Mako would take Korra to her favorite food cart. They would then take their meals to the park, more specifically to the tree where Korra and he had fallen asleep together. The place where his feelings first started to truly take root. He would propose there and offer the necklace as a token of his devotion to her. It was a perfect plan.

Everything was going well so far. Mako had informed Korra that he would be taking her out for dinner that night. She was elated. Korra loved her food almost as much as she loved Mako. He was about to go find the Avatar and bring her into the city when Bolin came walking into the room.

“Hey, Bro! Whoa! What have you got there?” Bolin looked curiously at the necklace Mako was about to tuck away neatly into his pocket.

Mako gestured to Bolin to keep it down before her answered.

“It’s a betrothal necklace. I made it for Korra. I told you I was going to ask her to marry me, remember?”

A giant grin spread across Bolin’s face.

“Of course I do! I just didn’t know how you were going to do it. This is awesome! Let me see!”

Mako sighed as his brother pleaded, but he handed the necklace over for Bolin to examine.

“Whoa, Bro. You really outdid yourself on this one. It’s bea-“

“Hey guys! Bolin why do you have a betrothal necklace in your hand? And why is the band red?” Korra’s brows furrowed together as she took in the scene. Bolin looked guilty and Mako looked slightly crest fallen. Then it clicked. The band was red because Mako had made the betrothal necklace for her with fabric from his scarf. Mako was going to ask her to marry him using her own tribe’s custom.

Korra’s face lit up and she threw her arms around the fire bender. Her lips quickly met with his. She kissed his cheek as she withdrew from the embrace.

“I know I ruined the surprise, but yes I will marry you.”

Mako couldn’t really be that mad, it was only a matter of time before Korra found out anyways. He smiled and brought his lips to hers once more.

Tenzin’s Talk

//makorra ficlet

Prompt: Will you do a story about Tenzin sitting one of the brothers down and interrogating them because they just started seeing Korra?

When Tenzin learned that Korra was officially seeing Mako he knew that it was time to set the boy down for a talk. It was his responsibility as Korra’s guardian, especially since her father was not present to do so.

He requested Mako’s presence in his study after their usual family dinner. He watched with a keen eye as the fire bender sat down in the chair across from him. There was an uneasiness in the manner Mako upheld himself. Clearly, he was nervous. Tenzin couldn’t help but feel somewhat pleased with the fear he installed in the boy, it meant that the fire bender was taking him seriously.

“Mako, I wanted to talk to you about something.”

“Yes, sir?”

“I’ve heard that you have, well, officially started seeing Korra and with that I thought I should have a talk with you. Not only is Korra the Avatar, but she is also my student. I don’t want to see her hurt or upset. Therefore, I ask that you treat her with the utmost respect and care.”

“Of course, sir. I wouldn’t do anything less.”

Tenzin stared him down for a few more moments before nodding.

“Good. You are free to go.”

Tenzin watched as Mako hurriedly walked towards the door.

“Oh, one more thing Mako.”

The firebender turned around to face Tenzin once more.

“Either be safe or don’t touch her at all.”

To Grieve

//makorra ficlet

Prompt:makorra angst! like korra dies and mako cant get over her death so he like (sleeps around, suicide, drinks, or whatever you find fit) XD

A/N: Warning. Angst.

It had been three months, but it felt like it had been thirty years. Almost ninety two days since had seen her face, heard her voice, or held her in his arms. Only ninety two days and that was already too much.

Korra had died protecting the world she had come to love so dearly. She gave up her life to maintain the balance she was created for. Mako couldn’t help but think the world was selfish. Putting all the troubles of an entire planet on one young woman. Demanding her life for their pathetic definition of peace. A peace that would probably only last a few months if even. Then the cycle would repeat itself and another Avatar would be born to fill the void and be trapped by their duty to maintain the balance of this world.

Mako wanted to chuckle at this last thought. He was so tired of hearing about a balance he never even saw. Korra had died for nothing. The next Avatar would most likely die for nothing, too. It all disgusted him.

He threw the empty liquor bottle against the old brick wall across from him. No one standing around the ring paid much mind to him. They all had their reasons to be there, none of them had the right to judge.

Mako merely picked up the next bottle of fire whisky and started to down that as well. He was becoming increasingly frustrated with how ineffective alcohol was becoming at drowning the burning hole in his heart.

Regardless, he kept trying to use it as an escape from his sorrows. Korra was lost to him forever and while Mako still had Bolin, he knew that the young earth bender was growing up and would be a fine man soon enough. Bolin wouldn’t need Mako like he had in the past.

“‘Ey kid. Yer up next. Ya beat this guy an ya get ta prize. Try not ta pass out from all ta booze eithers.”

Mako stood up shakily and entered the ring. He had taken up street fighting again once the booze stopped doing its job. He found that physical pain distracted him for at least some time. In fact, he didn’t even do it to win. Mako had been on a losing streak lately and you could see the evidence all over his body. Bolin had tried to pry answers out of him, but Mako just stormed out. For the past two weeks the fire bender hadn’t even ventured home. He slept on the streets like he had so long ago.

Mako was in such a deep alcoholic daze that he didn’t hear the announcer signal the beginning of the fight. He felt it though, as his opponent drove a heavy fist up into Mako’s ribs. The fire bender was pretty sure he heard one snap.

He was seeing stars already and the piercing pain that shot throughout his body was delicious relief from the ache in his heart.

Mako was thrown down, kicked around, and stomped on. He barely fought back. There was really no point anymore.

A darkness started to settle into his vision. He saw the ground coming towards him. The darkness swallowed him. He swore he could hear Korra’s voice once more.

Maybe this time he wasn’t going to wake up.

Comforting in the Cold

//makorra ficlet

Prompt: I wanted to write this, but with college I won’t have the time. The night after Korra gets her bending back, she can’t sleep so she goes to check up on her guests. She finds Mako shivering and remembering his winters on the streets. She comforts him. I need shameless fluff to ease my stress. Bite me.

A/N: We all need shameless fluff and I’m more than happy to give it ;D

Korra was much too awake to even think about falling asleep at the moment. She had finally awakened the Avatar state and had her bending back. How could somebody sleep after that?

She paced around the house and poked in and out of rooms to find her friends and her new family sound asleep. Well, everyone except for her now boyfriend, Mako. She found Mako quite awake.

More than awake, actually. Mako was sitting up and shivering quite violently in the dark. Korra had never seen Mako like this before. The shivering wasn’t what unnerved her. It was the look in the fire bender’s eyes. The only way she could describe it was far away and broken. Mako was somewhere else entirely.

Korra wasn’t sure what to do in a situation like this, so she simply went with her gut as usual. She knelled beside the fire bender and wrapped her arms around him. She laid her head against his chest and held him tightly.

“It’s okay, Mako. I’m right here. It’s going to be okay. Come back to me?”

Korra’s bright blue eyes bore into Mako’s far away gaze. It took a few moments of Korra repeating her message, but eventually Mako looked straight at her. He looked more confused than upset now.

“Korra? I’m sorry. It’s just really cold here. It reminded me of when Bolin and I had to live on the streets. It was always really hard in the winter, even with being a fire bender. I just got caught in old memories.”

Korra brought a hand up to Mako’s face and gently caressed him.

“It’s okay. It’s over now. You have a home and a family that loves you. I love you. You and Bolin will never have to go through that again. You’ll always have a home with me, no matter what. I’ll keep you nice and warm.” Korra smiled gently at Mako. She hadn’t seen him so vulnerable before, so she had to help him. She had to show him he wasn’t alone.

Mako leaned forward and pressed his lips to Korra’s. He didn’t know what to say. He didn’t think words would be enough anyways. He rested his forehead against hers and smiled back.

“Thank you, Korra. I love you.”

“Mhm, City Boy. Now move over. I’ll keep you nice and warm tonight.” Korra smirked as she started to squirm under the covers and into Mako’s arms.

//Drabble requests

I’m all out.

Seriously, I have never seen my inbox this empty.

What’s happening.

Doors

//makorra ficlet

Prompt: Doors.

Mako had a thing about doors. He had seen a lot in his life time. From the last time he saw the door of his home as he and Bolin left it for the last time, to the doors that were constantly slammed in their faces as they begged for food and shelter on the streets.

There were the doors that lead to the Triads hideout. Doors that led to a past both Mako and Bolin regretted. There were the doors that led to the many places Mako and Bolin lived in that they eventually had to leave behind.

Doors weren’t something Mako had any real enjoyment for. Well, until he faced the door of his and Maka’s new apartment. This door didn’t really scare him, in fact, Mako had never seen such a welcome sight.

He and Korra opened the door together.

//My inbox is empty of drabbles. You know what that means ;D
